Prayer Book

Edwards Prayer Book:

Nigel, pictures attached – in its slipcase it is 160 x 95 x 23 mm. It is intriguing that a Halifax bookseller (W. Edwards and Sons), known for their bindings with fore-edge paintings under the gilt and also for bindings in vellum (a cured calfskin that renders it white and semi-translucent so they often applied paintings under the skin that would show through from the front) should be commissioning a book printed by Paris’s finest printer (Piere Didot) in English in the midst of the French Revolution.
